Virtual Hosting Specifics
Some very old, Non-HTTP
1.1 compliant browsers are unable to take advantage of virtual hosting, and will therefore
will view a directory page that will allow them to access the site content. The
Non-HTTP 1.1 compliant browser will be connected directly to your website files through a
link to your site.
They will see EXACTLY what any other browser will see when they connect to www.your-domain-name.com
The ONLY difference is that the Address window will display the following:
http://www.your-domain-name.com/your-domain-name
For example: http://www.troutspring.com/troutspring
(try this link to confirm that everything is identical)
Also, you can view a sample of the directory page that
non-HTTP 1.1 compliant browsers will see.
The vast majority of browsers in use today (95%) are able to access your site
directly. In the near future, virtually all browsers will support the HTTP 1.1
protocol.
